AGA wonder

Losing my hair to a mystery filled shadowy condition like AGA is very troubling.  The strands fall slowly from my scalp and there is no warning, nothing I do or can do to cause or stop it.

I am wondering if the longer my stands get, the more visible my scalp is.  Just seems that I can see more scalp lately.  I also can feel more cool temps.  I wont stop applying my hair loss products and taking supplements.   I keep trying to find that blaze my sister was talking about and stop worrying about my hair.  I can't help but wonder if my scalp is the first things people see....I know its not but still I wonder.

I am working on healing my spirit.  That is what is damaged.  I am under an enormous amount of personal stress and I know that its not helping one bit.

Blaze of glory

My sister has a different outlook on her hair loss. She suffers from graves disease which is a thyroid condition. She periodically loses her hair. Her attitude when she saw me recently was "at least you are going out in a blaze of glory" hmmm I thought. I guess I could keep sulking and crying and hiding or I can just wait until its actually gone to do so. At least I could enjoy what's left of my sense of self and beauty before my hair is truly all gone.

So, a bit about why I started this blog. I'm losing my hair. Luckily not in clumps yet. I have more diffuse thinning all over. Localized thinning and bare spots on the sides and top.

I have refused to apply topical drugs like rogaine because I know they require long term use with little results that will cease once i stop using it. I will not take oral drugs like spirolactine etc because there isn't enough proof it will work and do not want side effects. No need to try these "might -might not work" drugs and put chemicals in my body. I just prefer to be natural as I can comfortably me.

There is a ton of information out "there" but I found most of it to be advertisements for various snake oils with fake claims.

What I have accepted is there is no cure for AGA. No matter what temporary fix a doctor can give me. Once you stop taking it your hair will fall out and the loss will likely be worse than before you tried the product. Catch 22.

Writing these pages Makes me feel better about what I know to be true. If my thoughts help another person in this circumstance, even better.

There was no boogeyman

I've never allowed any one but my mother to relax my hair. Ever. I've never been burned or experienced damage from a relaxer either. Since I've been thinning, I decided to stretch my relaxed past the five weeks I normally do to 8. Now during this time, my hair showed no real signs of a struggle. Blending two textures can be a bit of a challenge but since I have naturally fine hair it wasn't that big of a deal...... Until week 9. Breakage city!

Every time I touch my hair I would get 5-7 broken strands. My hair was clearly pissed. I decided enough was enough and I would relax my roots ASAP.

Now again I have been doing my own relaxers for 25 years.... Why was I so afraid!?? I cautiously went through the process and my hair turned out fine... As usual. My fear of my thin spots being more visible was unfounded. I didn't over or under process my waves. It was just my regular hair... With a few shiny spots of scalp showing. Nothing major.

There is no relaxer on thinning hair boogeyman for me. I worked myself up into a tizzy for nothing.

Of note... I saw no real benefit to the stretch either. Other than just not exposing my scalp to harsh chemicals. I'll try to stretch again and see how it goes.

My vitamin regimen

Morning :

1 thompsons b complex with rice bran oil
7 drops biosil

Afternoon:

1 nioxin recharging complex
2 phytophanere vitamins ( until end of jan)
1 fish oil

Evening:

2 phyto specific
1 Yasmin bcp
1 thompsons b complex with rice bran oil
7 drops of biosil
1 fish oil

So that's it. I've been taking this for a while. I honestly believe it helps the hair that isn't thinning/ falling thrive. I stopped taking the Nixon for a month and it wasn't good. My hair lost vitality and looked scraggly. I have 5 months of Nixon left. We will see results after then.

I'm also considering viviscal. But the price is keeping me away.

I have tried and stopped taking mms( no results) and biosil (?recently started back)

Sadness apparently isn't good for hair growth

I wonder if taking extra b vitamins will help get me through a tough time? Can't hurt. I'm actually afraid to relax my hair. Keep thinking its all going to Fall out or be so thin you can see my scalp. Anyway.... I haven't done it yet.

This week I'll be saying goodbye to a vitamin I've taken for 12 months. Phytophanere. $30 for a two supply... Hundreds of dollars and no real hair help.

At least I try.

Nioxin

Ive been taking nioxin vitamins for about two years. I honestly believe they impede my hair growth all while making my hair look shinier, fuller and thicker. Each time I stop taking them, all of the peach fuzz I've grown comes out. My hair grows but it becomes thin and scraggly, which I assume is my new normal.

I still take them. It makes me sad to know that they are only helping with the appearance of my hair and not really stoping the hair fall or growing real hair.
